When Is Getting A New Roof Is Better Than Repairs?

Your roof keeps your home protected against extreme weather conditions and harsh outdoor elements. When this part of your exterior gets damaged, you can either have it repaired or replaced. Depending on your situation, getting a roof replacement may be a better option than spending money on repairs.

You Have an Old Roof

Asphalt shingles usually last for at least 20 to 30 years. When your roof is nearing that age, you may want to start considering replacing it. It will be easier to keep track of your roof’s condition when you get regular inspections and maintenance.

Moreover, you can choose between an overlay and a tear-off when getting a new roof. In an overlay, your contractor will install new shingles over the old ones. Meanwhile, in a tear-off, your roofer will completely remove the old material first before installing the new one. The latter option is usually the better option as your installer can fix any underlying issues your roofing system may have before putting shingles in place. As a result, your new one will perform better, look more appealing, and even last longer.

There Are Missing, Buckling and Curling Shingles

After a storm, you may need to get a leaking roof repair if there are missing shingles. However, if the shingles are curling and buckling, it could indicate that they have reached the end of their life. You’ll need to get a new roof if most of the shingles are deteriorating.

Your Roof Is Sagging or Has Droopy Spots

The decking of your roof has probably weakened because of excessive moisture if it is sagging. Get your roof checked as soon as possible if it is drooping. It can mean that you need to replace your roof soon.
